University of Alberta 2024 Scholarship

Government of Canada Scholarships offers several scholarship programs to support candidates from abroad who wish to study, or conduct research in Canada on a short-term basis. Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP)

University of Alberta 2024 Scholarship Details:

List of Required Documents:

  • Letter of Proof of Full-time Enrolment from the Home institution.
  • Letter of Invitation (Required for both undergraduate and graduate research based application.
  • Proof of citizenship.
  • Privacy notice statement.
  • Letter of Support from the home institution.
  • Memorandum of Understanding or Agreement between the U of A and the Candidate’s Institution.
  • Letter of Intent.

University of Alberta 2024 Scholarship Requirements:

  • Applications and required supporting documents should be submitted directly to University of Alberta International by candidates through the University of Alberta International Government of Canada Scholarships Research Application Form. 
  • Scholarships cannot be deferred and are not renewable.
  • Priority will be given to candidates who have not previously received a scholarship under any Global Affairs Canada scholarship program.
  • For undergraduate applications for a research-based experience. Instead of an agreement, you will be required to provide a Letter of Invitation from the University of Alberta professor who has agreed to supervise you.
  • Applicants must be enrolled full-time in their proposed degree program at the time of application. For example, if the application period falls during a gap between the student’s Master’s and PhD enrollment, unfortunately, they will not be deemed eligible for the current scholarship year. If this situation applies to you, it is recommended that you apply next year.
  • Scholarships are not taxable for either the Canadian institution or the scholarship recipient.
  • For graduate applications, an inter-institutional agreement is desirable but not mandatory. If there is no existing exchange agreement, graduate applications which involve a new or established collaboration between professors from a Canadian institution and the candidate’s home institution will be accepted.

How to Apply:

Interested and eligible applicants for the Government of Canada Scholarships at the University of Alberta are to ensure that they meet the eligible criteria for the scholarship before they can proceed to find a host professor/supervisor. Email professors you would potentially like to work with the following information:

  • Your full name and contact information.
  • Your home University and home country.
  • Whether you are currently an undergraduate (bachelor) or graduate (master or doctoral) student.
  • The full name of the scholarship program you would be applying for.
  • Which year of your degree program you are in.
  • How long you wish to do research for (4 months, 5-6 months, 8 months).
  • Your ideal start date (must finish no later than February 1 each year).
  • Documents such as your CV/resume, university academic transcripts, and/or cover letter.
  • A link to the information for host supervisors.

Once the applicant has found a potential host supervisor, the applicant will work together with their home institution and University of Alberta host supervisor to gather the required supporting documents which will then be submitted while also completing the online application Form.
