About Scholarship:

The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program is offering fully funded masters degree scholarships to citizens of developing countries with appropriate professional experience and educational background, as well as support for their country’s development objectives.

Participating countries and courses:

The JJ/WBGSP is available for 52 Participating Master’s Programs at 27 universities in the US, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan. These programs are available in critical development fields like infrastructure management, tax policy, and economic policy management.

Benefits of the JJ/WBGSP:

  • Economy flight from home country to host university.
  • A $500 travel budget trip to the US.
  • Basic health insurance and graduate program tuition.
  • Monthly allowance for living expenses while attending college.
  • The amount is different for each host nation.
  • The scholarship is awarded for the full two years of the masters program.

The JJ/WBGSP Does Not Cover:

  • Application fees for visas.
  • The cost of family assistance.
  • After-school programs or instruction.
    • Credit requirements for the degrees not met by the courses.
  • Extra travel when enrolled in a course.
  • Research-related costs, additional supplies, field excursions, seminars and workshops, and internships.
  • Computers and other educational equipment.
  • The cost of a resident permit.
  • Masters Degree Scholarships are meant to be used in conjunction with other sources of funding or fellowships.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements Applicant Must;

  • Be a nationality of a World Bank member developing country.
  • Not have dual citizenship of any developed country.
  • Be in good health.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree earned at least 3 years prior to the application deadline.
  • Be employed in development-related work in a paid full-time position at the time of application submission.
  • Have at least 3 years of paid development-related employment since earning a bachelor’s degree.
  • Have admission to at least one of the JJ/WBGSP participating masters degree scholarship outside the applicant’s country of citizenship and residence.
  • Not be an Executive Director, alternate, or staff of any World Bank Group appointment.
  • No exceptions for individuals who have previously been offered a JJ/WBGSP scholarship but declined it or received a scholarship but did not graduate.

  • Window #1: January 15-February 29, 2024.
  • Selection announced by end of March 2024.
  • Window #2: March 25-May 24, 2024.
  • Selection announced by end of June 2024.
