Canada Student Visa Requirements

A Canada student visa is a document that authorizes International migrants to live and study in Canada legally. Without a student visa, you cannot study in a Designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada as a non citizen. Canada Student Visa Required Documents:

The following documents must be ready before you commence your student visa application:

  • Passport sized photographs.
  • A valid passport.
  • Proof of acceptance from a DLI.
  • Proof of funds.
  • Statement of purpose.
  • English language Proficiency result.
  • Police clearance.
  • Immigration medical examination.

1. Passport sized photographs

If you’re doing an offline visa application, you will need two passport photographs that must be in line with the requirements of the embassy. The picture must not be older than six (6) months, and your name and date of birth must be written behind the photograph. If you are applying via the online application portal, you must upload a picture that is not more that 4MB.

2. A valid passport

Your passport validity must cover the duration of your intended stay. This is a mandatory requirement from the Canadian high commission.

3. Proof of acceptance from a DLI

You need to show proof that you have been offered admission from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI). A DLI is university that is recognized by the Canadian Immigration Department. This during your Canada student visa application, you will need to present the acceptance letter from school you will attend.

4. Proof of funds

You must show that you are financially sufficient to cover your tuition and all your living expenses in Canada. The amount that you are expected to have is around CAD 20,635. You must also show capacity to fund your return ticket. You can proof your financial capacity via these:

  • Student loan.
  • Bank statement not less than four (4) months.
  • Canadian bank account.
  • Proof of sponsorship.

5. Statement of purpose

During your application, you will be asked to present a statement of purpose, this essay should reveal the purpose of your travel and the understanding of your duties as a student.

6. Language proficiency result

This requirement is not mandatory, but it is advisable to have it handy in case the embassy requests it. TOEFL, IELTS, E.t.c are acceptable.

7. Police clearance certificate

You must present a police clearance certificate to prove that you have no past criminal record or ongoing criminal case. This is a form of check to ensure that Canada is free from human threats.

8. Immigration medical examination

Canadian Immigration requires international students to undergo a compulsory Immigration Medical Examination from recognized health facilities. International students need to book an appointment and visit the listed practitioner for a medical examination, before they start their visa application. This is to give the doctor enough time to validate and upload the necessary documents. Booking on time with the nearest facility/Physician is important.

The physician will perform a complete medical exam and may refer you for chest X-rays and laboratory tests. Once you complete your exam, the physician will send the results to Canadian International Council (CIC).
